If given the chance, I would have replaced the JA(I)L logo with a stylized set of kanji (Chinese characters) that represent the Japanese name for JAL. They are the nation's flag carrier, and since few Japanese airlines utilize Japanese script (ANA seems to be phasing out Japanese titles on their planes in favor of English letters), the fleet of JAL should reflect Japanese culture and tradition, starting with the kanji mentioned above. That would have been a bold design. Just think of the tail design for the BA "Hong Kong" World Planes (bold, brushed Chinese characters), tweaked just a bit to fit the current location of the JAL logo...

My input: The JAL type on the front of the fuselage is quite nice, but the tail.......what to say about the tail.........simply it is HORRID. It is quite possibly the worst tail design in the history of flight.

I've said this before and I'll say it again. I really don't like the new livery. The old one was much, much better and should have been left alone. The "white" of the new livery makes the red look bland and males the plane look smaller. The "Japan Airlines" font looks too simple and siginifies a less exciting airline. The old tail desing was also much more pleasing to look at and represents the coutry's culture better.
Maybe it will just take a little time for me to get used to it but as of this post, I miss the old colors!
Its better to be on the ground wishing you were in the air than be in the air wishing you were on the ground. Fly safe!

This livery is horrible! I thought the last one was way more exciting (eventhough it was kinda plain too) but this is rediculous! Their planes look ugly, and if I was Japan, I'd be ashamed of my flag carrier.

I like it. I am glad to see change. I think it is fresh and modern, very downtown Tokyo! LOL very 21 century. I think JAL will mix its traditions of its company and country through its service that it will offer to its passengers so I think Japan will like its Flag Carrier colors.

I do not care for the pink-ish, beige-ish white body of the new livery, and would much prefer the white body they currently have.
If a white crane logo was added to the tail, similar in the scale and placement to Northwest's "N", I think it would be much more interesting, and would maintain a visual tie to the previous couple of liveries.
I find it odd that Japan Airlines insists on using "airlines" rather than "air lines", yet continues to refer to itself as "JAL".

I still have to get used to Japan Airlines' new livery. It does have a more modern appeal, but it still looks kind of plain to me. A small crane the size of the "N" of Northwest on the tail would indeed make the livery more interesting. But I think this livery surely is recognizable from a distance which is the general idea of an airline's livery or corporate brand.

Im going to semi agree with "Redwarf" for the japanese characters they could put that on somewhere get rid of that stupid red wave across the "A" in JAL and the tail aint to bad but maybe they could have a full red tail with a circle in the middle with the crane inside that circle .
Is this JAL thats in new the c/s only going to do domestic and will any other JAL aircraft be painted into this new c/s ?
