Today in the Oregonian newspaper, it said that Air Transat would not be allowed by the Mexican Government to fly from PDX and Buffalo to Cancun. They were to start 1x weekly charter service from PDX on 12/22. There was no reason given other than the Mexican Govt would not grant them access. Does any one know why?

Hey,

That is very strange because they have their flights sold out already for these routes. Plus they did theses routes last year winter. I wonder why the Mex govt isnt allowing them now?

Regards,

It would be very suprising that TS would not be allowed to fly to Mexico from the US because of safety/maintenance issues. They already do from virtually everywhere in Canada and those flights have been operating on schedule. Everyone in the current economic environment in North America needs a little boost and I don't see why the Mexican gov. would not allow of plane full of consumers that are going to spend big $$$ in their country.

Just my opinion, I would certainly be interested to read the article If the newspaper has a website.

You can go to oregonlive.com and check the business section. It was in the 12/6/02 edition of the Oregonian

The Mexican government should have a valid reason for not allowing an airline to operate flights... I should see what I can find on this issue, but Mexico is aware of the $$$ tourist spend.
