Hi folks,
yesterday i flew to Leipzig/Germany (LEJ) and saw an Atran AN-12 on the Tarmac. Today i left in late afternoon and saw two Atran An-12. Who is Atran? and are they having a project or are they chartered for some company in Leipzig?

Hallo Amir,
well, the "Mitteldeutsche Flughafen AG" managing both LEJ and DRS and ATRAN have created a joint-venture called "Eastern Air Cargo" (http://www.easternaircargo.de). While the main goal of the company is to promote LEJ as a cargo gateway to the east, this company has offices in Frankfurt/Main and I believe in Moscow DME as well. ATRAN has scheduled cargo services 5 times a week between LEJ and DME (with a night stop in LEJ) offering connections to over 100 russian and CIS-cities. Usually this flight is an AN-12, but sometimes IL76 or even AN 22 are used. Additionally, in peak times ATRAN has direct flights with AN-12 to Kazan. This LEJ-DME route is the main route of EAC, but they have brought various Antonovs and Iljushins of different operators to LEJ, as well.
One question: what have u been doing in Leipzig (or maybe Halle)?

I might add that the second An 12 was most likely the Kazan flight as, like I said above, IL76s are used if there is more cargo to DME than an An 12 can hold
