As some of you know, American closed down its Phoenix Admirals Club and the former TWA Ambassador Club. Any chance of them re-opening either one by say August, 2003? I'm going to Arizona State and my mom told me she'd buy me an AC membership for my 18th birthday, I need to put it to good use!

PHX is mainly a leisure destination. Airline Lounges largely cater business travelers, and PHX probably doesn't have enough to support an Admirals Club which is why they dropped it.
When the economy improves, they might return it. But the economy isn't expected to return to good shape until at least 2005.
American Eagle which has 9 flights from SJC and LAX will stop serving PHX soon. So flights will drop to only 19 American flights a day. That could be another reason.

I don't foresee any chance of a Admirals Club reopening anytime in the near future. But even if they did reopen one, why would you need a membership? Do you expect to spend that much time at Sky Harbor? By the way, good luck at ASU. I'm a ASU alumni and loved the 6 years I spent there. Whatcha going to study?

If you're going to ASU, forget asking for an Admiral's Club...you'll have plenty of opportunities for places to drink for free on or near campus in Tempe!
My personal recommendation is to join the ASU "Snowdevils" ski and snowboarding club, loosely known as "the drinking club with the skiing problem." $25.00 gets you free beer at the weekly parties for an entire semester. Besides, the girls in the Snowdevils are always..er, shall we say "morally casual."

In my student days, I had a DL CRC membership. It was a gem, as I wrote many papers while sitting in the club. I would often go to the airport for the day just to write.
Then again, this was back when it was easier to get beyond security.

Where are you located now? If you plan on traveling a good amount home like I do (I attend ASU and live in CT) why dont you try flying America West, Continental, or Northwest and atain elite status and get free upgrades unlike AA? HP ofcourse has clubs in PHX, and as a World Club member you can use the PHX, LAS, and CMH America West clubs for free........
Now, a little off topic, you will love ASU..... Aside from the girls being dumb, and msot of the bimbos, you wont find many schools with the amount of hotties to choose from !
Also, why dont you try getting your Aviation managment degree from ASU East? They have a very good program, and you could do it the same time as majoring in History or Business at ASU main..... Give that a thought.

NW is aggressively comping status from other airlines right now. I have been giving serious thought to jumping to NW for the free domestic upgrades (since I fly largely domestic now), wrote them through the website (cut and pasted my AA status), and got equal status (I'm an AA Platinum, so got NW Gold Elite) with them, good through Feb 2004.
The downside of NW is, appearently, the ability to redeem miles, especially for WBC travel. But I keep weighing the amount of money I spent on e-upgrades on American this year and getting depressed.
My biggest issue is, of course, that I'm living in MIA, which is a significant AA hub.

Yeah it was my safety school, but University of Colorado at Boulder rejected my New York (HPN/LGA) A$s due to my crappy GPA. I shouldnt have slacked off all those years.

Pass on the aviation management program out at ASU East. It has taken a giant step backward from what it was in the past. The CEAS has some aviation courses, but they appear to be somewhat limited. ASU is no longer the aviation mecca it once was.
