SAN has several international flights. There are ones to Mexico (I think), Canada, and England. I have been at SAN many many times in my life (34 times) and have never noticed customs for these international flights to be processed in. Where do you clear customs and SAN and if you just do it at the gate when you get off the plane, then what do they do about getting your luggage and making declarations? Thanks a lot!

This terminal 2 map shows the location of International Arrivals at SAN. I've never done international flights there but it looks like they must use one of the gates with a number in the low 20's.

Most bizjets and private aircraft coming from Mehico clear customs at KSDM, not KSAN.

SAN has I beleive 2 gates in a recently opened intl terminal. Its basically 2 gates that are located between t1 and t2. BA and AM flights arrive and depart here. AC flights depart and arrive from t1 in UA's concourse, I don't think the AC flights clear customs in SAN, if I remeber correctly the pre-clear customs in Canada prior to boarding.

Anyone remember the "old" Customs and Immigration facility at SAN, in the East Terminal?

Ugly, ugly, ugly.

I flew twice from Mexico City (MEX) to Sand Diego (SAN) on Continental Airlines when they used to operate a non-stop flight 1998 and 1999. When we arrived at SAN, the aircraft was parked in a remote position located between gate 1 and gate 2 of terminal 1 (if I remember correctly, correct me if I'm wrong) and we walked to a small entrance with three immigrations stands. Only two were working, one for citizens and one for international passengers... it was a very small improvised entrance, but I really like it since we were able to walk on SAN's tarmac...

Johnboy and Rojo are both speaking of the old customs facility in what used to be known as the East Terminal (which was located near the upper right hand corner of the photo below, marked by the two oil spots farthest to the right of the top two Southwest 737s). The new customs facility is very close to where the large BA 777 is parked in the photo below.

The customs area in SAN is on T2 just next to T1............it's pretty small and even with that single BA 777 it gets crowded.

Still it is far better than having to deplane in Phoenix, clear customs with all your luggage and then board again for the short hop to SAN, once I clocked that it took more time for the plane to clear customs than the actual flight from Phoenix to San Diego

Currently on the flights from Mexico and the BA flight clear customs in SAN. From the International arrivals gate you walk through a secure hall to imigration. Clearing that you go downstairs to the bag claim/customs area. Once you clear you walk right out onto the sidewalk outside of the terminal.
