Longest-standing Aircraft Order?

It seems like Northwest has been planning to introduce the Airbus widebodies into their fleet for the past ten years. Is their current order the same one that they placed back in the early 1990s or did they cancel that order and place a new one? If it's still the original order that must set some kind of record for length of an unfulfilled order.

I think TW's order for A330 also falls into this category. It was announced in 1988ish just after the announcement of the 330/340 project and only cancelled after TW ordered a few 318/319 during the late 1990's.
The outcome? AA cancelled all outstanding TW orders after the merger was announced.

NW and CO ordered A340s early on in the program. Both cancelled, NW in ~'93
and CO in '94. I can confirm that an NW order for 16 A333s deferred to 2004 was on the books in 1996. I don't know the circumstances under which the order was accelerated but it obviously was.
