COO of Groupo-TACA during the acquisition of a lot of those carriers was Scott Dickson, Pres and CEO of Vanguard when it went under...
Groupo TACA was a small, badly-performing Central American carrier until about six/seven years ago, when it finally became well managed and financed... It serves cities all over Central, North, and South America using A319/20s and 737s, and is the fastest growing carrier in the region.
Those who fail to learn history are doomed to repeat it in summer school.

I met the owner of Islena at the Stuart Air Show.. he's retired on the Treasure Coast and owns a Fokker 27 now... great guy... he also founded 2 other airlines in central america (forgot which ones)... I was impressed at how he said he would make all his mechanics learn English and take FAA courses in the USA.... unheard of for a central american commuter!
