Today Alitalia will start the new three weekly no-stop flights between Rome FCO and Tokyo NRT with the new B772.

These flights were operated with B763, but due to the long distance there were many payload limitations.

Here the schedule:

AZ 784 FCO-NRT 1220-0830/1130-1625 2-5-7 B772
The distance between the two airport is 9897 km.

From Jan 1 Alitalia will start to fly the B772 also on the Milan MXP- Tokyo NRT route:

AZ 786 MXP-NRT 1455-1055/1255-1745 Daily B772

Today there is also the special offer "Christmas present from Alitalia" and you could book all the domestic flights for the 24,25,26,30,31 DEC and 1,2 JAN for only €50 one way without limitation like Saturday night rule and so on.

Shouldn't Alitalia receive its fourth B777 this month?
Then the schedule foresees the 5th on March and the last of the first batch in May.
I hope they will soon reactivate dumped routes like Los Angeles and San Francisco.

Do they have any plans regarding the MD-11 fleet?

Ciao

Stefano

B777 will also operate MXP - DKR very shortly. This route is currently operated by MD 11. This seems to be a very promising route for AZ both for high senegalese immigration in Italy and for the touristic appeal of Senegal. AF too operates daily through a 742.

Shanti,
I doubt that AZ will deploy the 777 on the MXP-DKR route.
There are much more important routes that need the 777, like those towards the USA and South America and towards Asia.
If they had more aircrafts you could see it but untill they will have 12/13 B767, 8 MD-11 and 6/9 B777 you won't see this happen.
However, if they will convert the options for 6 B777-300ER and the 6 more options for unspecified versions it could be possible to see the Triple seven serving on unusual routes.

Ciao

Stefano

Stefano,

I looked in the Alitalia easy-timetable (Orario!) that I got at JFK and they are scheduled to use 777's on the DKR route.

From what I could see (The timetable was valid until 31 Marzo 2003)...

FCO-JFK 777
FCO-NRT 777
MXP-NRT 777
MXP-DKR and another Mid-east destination that slips my mind...

Hope this helps!

Yes, Alitalia will fly the B772 to Dakar and also to Tehran.

The main reason is that the flight back to Tokyo lands in MXP at 1745 and since AZ has decided to not use the B772 to Buenos Aires this winter, with these flights to DKR and THR the B772 could leave MXP in the evening and be back the morning of the day after for the afternoon flight to NRT.
Plus on these routes it seems AZ is doing very well since they were improved from two to three weekly flights last summer.

sorry to bother but when is my flagship carrier using ( or maybe it is ALREADY doing it...) 777's to JFK?

I am dying to see more pics of the interiors, but their website is quite lackadasical and stingy on info and pics...
plus, I want to see the new menus and I wonder if they will be replacing the metal tins in magnifica with something more practical and start serving champagne instead of our ( very good indeed) sparkling wine.

Vermeer,

Alitalia flies a 777 (usually I-DISA "Taormina") daily to JFK. I've been out to the airport to see it quite a few times, and I cannot say more than enough how elegant this plane looks!

IMHO, quite the best looking 777 out there.

As for interior pics, try checking out:

I hope that helps!

Not just their website... there are surprisingly few pics of AZ 777s anywhere... even here  Sad

Checked schedules in the Apollo CRS and no AZ 777 to DKR. I checked several months like Mar, Apr and Jul. MXP-JFK will switch to a 777 around 30Mar03 and about the same time MXP-THR. FCO-JFK will see a second 777 flight starting mid-July03. Seems the MD-11s are going away and only see them on the FCO-EZE and MXP-EZE routes when I check schedules in Jul03. MXP-NRT will start in January and be daily by Feb03. The777Man

The MXP-DKR with B772 is confirmed by their official timetable until the end of February.

The777Man, I think you are right. In their official timetable they show MXP-DKR with B772, but if you check in the online timetable they put MDD-11.

I will ask to a friend and I will post something later if he could give me some fresh news.
