AKL spotters you may find this of interest! On January 1st of 2003, United Airlines is operating 2 non stop LAX-AKL flights. The first flight of the night is UA 849 served by the Boeing 747-400. Less then an hour after that flight departs, UA 841 a Boeing 777 will depart for Auckland. Arrival times for UA 849 is around 7:30AM. UA 841 due in a bit past 8AM on January 3rd. The 747-400 will stay in Auckland until the 4th before it returns to LAX as UA 848. I find it interesting that this is just a one time flight option during the month of January. I wonder if there is a particular reason for the extra flight?? Hope someone can get a shot of the two aircraft together in AKL!

Cheers!
Brian

Thanks for that!  Smile

This flight also operated last week in AKL from 0700 Sunday morning to 2000 Monday. Aircraft was N118UA!

I have a feeling that the 30 Dec UA841-842 service is a 747-400 due to the arrival time being a little earlier, that is the date it's in AKL. Maybe UA are looking at a new service to AKL? I heard before SEPT 11 that they planned double daily LAX-AKL with 744's! Strange that this flight is a 3 digit flight # considering last year they had a couple of extra flights with 744's and used 4 digit flight #'s!!

I actually heard UA's loads were down but the past year has seen a record number of American tourists to NZ, for the first time over 200-000!!

NBT, I checked UAL's skynet website in regard to the LAX-AKL flight on the 30th. It still shows a 777-200 on UA 841. You are correct though on the flight time change. It seems to be about an hour or so difference!

Cheers!
