Went to the Mojave desert this past weekend . Awesome
sight , to see so many planes parked there : I am quoting
from memory OK :
3 KLM 743s
1 Mandarin MD11
4 Virgin 742s
5 FedEx A310s
2 Continental 742s
2 British 742s
2 British 757s
8 xAA xHawaiian DC10-10s
And rows and rows of US Air 733s and 732s in both
mainliner and Metrojet liveries.
And tons of other planes that I can't even remember...
One interesting thing I'd to share with you folks who can
make it up there in person : try to go there during the
weekend : if there is no activity there , the guard will give
you a tour for $5US a head : minimum $10 .
He did drive us out there , to the field and drove through
2 rows of US Air jets , parked on both side of a dirt drive
way.
He was mentioning the day before , they had 30 height
challenged people ( OK...30 midgets ) pulling on a jumbo
for some show...
The guard is in the main bldg right below the tower , go
inside and it's the first door to the right.
It's really worth a drive out there from LA.

If only I was about 2500 miles closer to LA. After seeing that Ford truck commercial (with the truck pulling the old prop), it made me want to see all the old birds at MHV. A real spotter's heaven. One quick question: were the registrations on the plane still?

I will definitely have to take a trip to MHV. Is their anywhere where I can find out what A/Cs they have parked at MHV.

Did you take any pics and if so can you post them so we can take a look.

Thanks

Happy New Year.

I love going to Mojave every year . Was that Swiss Air Asia MD-11 still there ? Those CO 742's have been there for years by the Animal Shelter.

The Ford commercial I think is from VCV. I've been to MHV several times and there is no location with a line up like that.

Oh nice, I wondering if the tours still were still offered. Back in '96 or so I think my dad drove me up there and we did the tour thingy. I'd be curious to go back now. Did you have to call to make reservations for it? I wouldn't want to drive all the way up there to the middle of nowhere from here in LA and have it be closed. How long did the drive take you (I assume you left from LA)?

On a side note, does anyone know if VCV has a similar thing. I'd love to go see some of the ex-TW stuff.

thanks, JW

I think the guard is allowed to give you the tour when there is no activity
out in the field . I really don't think you can call in advance for that. No , I
did not see the Swiss Asia MD11 out there this time .
Sorry , I don't know how it happened that there are 2 threads for this :
as I wrote earlier , the planes are all different this time : used to see tons of
US Air BAE146s , Continental MD80s , BA L1011s..now , they are all gone .
The drive is not bad at all , if you start early during the day : 2 hours .
I will try to find that phone number and post it here for you folks to call in
advance .

AA2MM, I run my own website out of my house with plenty of space. I'd be more than happy to host your pics for you.

VCV is out of the question. They run you off for being near the fence.
