Ladies and Gentlemen,

We present the first article in a series dedicated to the NASA 747 Shuttle Carrier Aircraft. The article is serialized due to length.

On a side note: the last flying aircraft, N905NA, was relocated to Ellington Airfield in Houston,TX in late October 2012. It is expected that this will be her final retirement location. Her engines will be shipped back via land to Palmdale and NASA SOFIA (if nothing else changes).

Eksath thanks for sharing. I won't have time to read them until later this week, but I'm looking forward to it. I was there for the last 2 flights, as well as others previously, and I will miss seeing them.

Thank you John.

The slight delay in the final part is due to a rewrite that I am doing. I have been having a long post mission debrief with some of the flight crew on the last two ferry hence I feel that that the story won't be complete without the added information and anecdotes.

I promise some of the details will be not be seen anywhere but in the last part.
