I've recently been hearing a lot of aircraft in the air with the call sign "repatriate" or perhaps "repatriot". I'm not even sure if they're military but I suspect it has something to do with the government.

I've been hearing them operating a lot in mexico and the southern US. For this reason and the meaning of the name I thought it might be some sort of deportation operation for illegal immigrants. Any idea who this might be, and what sort of equipment they operate? Thanks!

Sounds like DOJ charters (Department of Justice). They tend to used leased aircraft, may times 737s or MD-80s.

Thanks, that's interesting. I heard 3 or 4 of them in the air at the same time along the mexican gulf coast last week.

I've seen the military callsign "Repat". It was almost always a C17 from the east. One person told me it was bringing back the remains of soldiers from Afghanistan. I haven't seen in it in quite a while though.
