Quoting StealthZ (Reply 1): What is that 150 miles?
That is a trip that should be taken in a C-32 or C-20, even in a VH-71.. oh wait they don't have those yet!
Why not Marine One?

I was thinking the same thing...when Presidents Reagan and Bush 41 visited Charlottesville (which is not that far from Williamsburg, aeronautically speaking) they traveled on Marine One.

His travel in VC-25 is a national security issue! After 9/11, I believe VC-25 will travel with the President on all official trips. No one knows if and when another terroist attack can happen, so secuirty is always forefront. VC-25 is the most capable command center of all aircraft in the President airlift. Even though the trip was a 150 miles (give or take), if something should happen and the President cannot make it back into Washington, D.C., than VC-25 stands ready to provide a command center for our Armed Forces. Cost or Envirnomental Efficiency in regards to VC-25 is not an issue. All questions start and end with "SECURITY" not only for the President but more importantly the UNITED STATES OF AMERICA!

No, it is not. President Bush used the C-32A, C-37A, C-20C, and C-40B on several trips after 9/11. He also used Marine-1 to fly to the commissioning of his father's ship (Bush-41) The USS George H.W.Bush, CVN-78, flying into NAS Oceana, then to the ship. That trip is longer than to Newport News by about 15 nm.

His trip time included transferring to another Marine-1 at Newport News to the Democrat meeting at the (luxury) resort. This 4 day trip, plus all the Democrats, and their families, the POTUS and VC-25A, and VH-3Ds cost us more than $100M.

President Bush last official flight aboard AF1 was to Norfolk,VA on Jan 10, 2009. He also visted Norfolk, VA aboard AF1 back in Oct., 2005. So precedent has be set for this short flight.

You may be correct, don't really recall any myself!
