It seems that Finland is going soon to choose its next air defense solution between the last two contenders – the US/Norwegian NASAMS II system, based on the SL-AMRAAM and the French-Italian SAMP/T, based on the ASTER-30.
As I understood, the new system will be in charge of the air defense of Helsinki, replacing the BUK (SA-11) in this task.

Let’s hope that Finland will choose the proper system for its needs.

The US system and French system have slightly different capabilities, which is also different from the current SA-11 system. It really comes down to what the Finns need for capability as well as what they can afford.

According to the papers today, the choice is US/Norwegian NASAMS II system, based on the SL-AMRAAM, with the missiles and the radar system the price goes over 500 million Euros.
