I was always wondering, how the wings of the F-16 Falcon can store so much fuel since the wings look so thin. Does anyone know if fuel is stored elsewhere besides in the wing tanks and under wing carry on fuel tanks? Does anyone know where there is a website that shows a photo or picture of the F-16's fuel tanks in the wings? Its just amazing how the F-16 can carry so much fuel inside of its thin looking wings.

The thinness of the wings very well hides the immensely strong structures within.
If you can get access to some of the Airplane Design books by Dr. Jan Roskam at a library, some of them have detailed cutaway views of F-16 variants and other aircaft detailing structures and internal fuel storage.

The F-16 also has a fuselage fuel tank immediately behind the cockpit.

Fair enough, but wouldn't just such a structure limit the amount of fuel that the wings can carry?

Most of the fuel in an F-16 is in the fuselage. There are a number of tanks from just behind the cockpit to just in front of the horizontal stabilizers. The F-16E pictured in the links in reply 3 also has conformal tanks on top of the fuselage....

If I remember my Kunsan days, the F-16 only holds 500lbs (73.5 gal) of JP-8 in each wing. The biggest fuel tank (A and C models) is what post #3 pointed out, immediately aft of the cockpit. B and D models differ in size due to the second seat taking up room otherwise used for the forward main tank.

The cool thing (to me anyway) is there's a large set of fuel tanks that wrap around the engine starting from mid wing leading all the way to the edge of the tail. The bottom of the tanks literally come within inches of touching the motor.

Hope this helps a little.
