Anybody here know why a whole range of military aircraft performed a flypast over London between about 11:45 and 12pm today? I missed much of it but I did catch a 15 heli strong convoy including sea kings and I think a few lynx copters.
Also looked like a few fighters shot by.

I live in South East London and the flypast looked to be heading to the city.

In my eyes the Boeing 747 will ALWAYS be the queen of the skies!

Nice to see some FAA veterans on board Illustrious . including a Fairey Swordfish pilot who was one of those who damaged the steering of the Bismark in 1941, which sealed it's fate.

Now that is a very nice thing to hear about. My great uncle was also a Fairey Swordfish pilot on the Ark, and flew in that same strike on the Bismarck, and indeed before that the accidental attack on the Sheffield (named after his home town...ooops!). When the carrier was torpedoed, he along with many other aircraft took off for Malta before the ship's list grew to great to launch aircraft. unfortunately after the war he was killed whilst flying an officer in a mid air collision.

Long may the FAA remain the wonderful force it is today.

That's a cool "great uncle" story. ...I've got one too. My "great uncle" is reputed to have taken a local policeman flying with him on a Lancaster bomber test flight from the shadow factory in Leeds. They say he barrel rolled that Lancaster to impress the policeman.

On May 7th morning I was at Uxbridge, near London and I saw:

- 2 Seaking
- 7 Lynx
- 1 EH-101

It was very impressive!
