It's about that time of the year again.
As I peer out the window from my desk, the tents are being set up, the grass mowed, and a lonely BAC 1-11 out of Boscombe Down has been sitting at the north end since yesterday.
Unfortunately I won't be around to work one of the sponsor displays this year or even to see the show itself. However, I just wanted to put this out there to start a thread on it and get everyone pumped up about it.
The weather around here has been awesome (damn un-English) so far this year so let's hope it holds out for a couple more weeks.
And here's lat year's thread as well: RAF Waddington Airshow 08 (by GST Jul 2 2008 in Military Aviation & Space Flight)
Hopefully, some of last year's posters can chime in with some excellent detail as before.

Unfortunately I wont be sampling the delights of the Waddington show this year, too busy moving into a newe house and preparing for a gliding trip in Ireland. On the plus side its flying based, on the down side there wont be any jet noise.

I shall be over either tomorrow or Sunday.
Swinging towards tomorrow but I do think Sunday would be much better with the French display as well as the Vulcan flying. However the weather is closing in and tomorrow at least looks half decent, Sunday looks like its going to rain most of the day.

Just got back from Waddington tonight. To be honest I think it was one of the worst Waddington airshows I've ever been to! The weather was perfect though(for once!). They had so many people there that all the car parks on base were full early & they were having to park people off base where ever they could! On the airshow radio they were asking people if they weren't in already to turn round go home & try again tomorrow!
Highlights in the static were(IMHO),French E3, Austrian C130,Czech An26 in special livery(which was here before) & Polish CN295. Flying wise the only thing that really stood out was the Polish Team Orlik!
The bad points(again IMHO), the Vulcan not flying due to paperwork problems with the CAA! The usual based aircraft fly by(Nimrod & E3) didn't take place. I was looking forward to this with the addition this year of the Sentinel R1, they all displayed separately! There was also no sign of the newly based Shadows(Be350's). All these wouldn't have been a problem if the flying display had been seemless, but this year for some reason there were some very long gaps between displaying aircraft! It got so bad that we decided to leave early at 15.15 & judging by all the spaces we weren't the only ones who had got fed up & left!
Its a shame because Waddington is my local airshow(I'm 1 hour away by car) & I've been going since it took over from the show at the old RAF Finningley(now DSA Doncaster-Sheffield International Airport). It wont stop me from going to next years show but it would be interesting to hear what other people who went thought of the show?

Dave you got your review spot on. They were my thoughts exactly as well. A serious lack of fast jets and afterburner this year and considering how busy it was I left at 1530 so to avoid any traffic problems as it was that busy, there was no point hanging around until the Eurofighter display.
As a photographer this years show was very disappointing. It is the first time i have been to Waddington in 4 years and the barriers have got definitely got tighter. Since my visit to Nellis in 2006 UK airshow are not what they are cracked up to be anymore.

Went on Sunday and considering it's the premier RAF airshow it's not really that good. Was it last year when they had the battle scenario with F3s, GR4s, Hawks, Choppers and an E3? Just a Typhoon at the end, there should have been an F3, GR4, Harrier and maybe some NATO content ie F4, F16, F15 etc Maybe a tactical landing by a C130.
I know, there's a war on don't you know, but isn't that just more reason to fly the flag more so Joe public gets to see more of what's on the news.
Going back just a few years and even regional airshows were almost as good as this. It's not just Waddington though, I was at Cosford a few weeks ago, almost the same display. Must add it was nice to see the different styles of show by the aerobatic teams. I walked 9 miles from home to the show and back to miss the traffic jams and got a nice tan.
