Greetings from Armenia where I have been posted for two years. Over the last couple of months, I've noticed that the Russian MIG-29's based here in Yerevan head up every Thursday morning and put on quite a show in front of Mt. Ararat. I'd like to get some shots, but I'm not sure of a) a good locations and b) whether the authorities would give me a hard time. Any ideas would be helpful, along with any background on the Russian Mig-29s in Armenia.

Thanks!

You mean going up the mountain or framing it in the background? I don't know the area but if you photograph from a public location then I don't see why you should encounter any problems. What kind of photography equipment are you planning on using?

I lived in Armenia for about 10 years and I know the place quite well. My question is, how close to the border do they usually get? The road leading to the Zvartnots airport and to Echmiadzin should be a good location or else if they go further south, drive towards the town of Ararat.
I won't be surprised if curious Armenians approached and asked you why you're taking photos. They are sometimes so bored that would like to question your intentions from head to toe.

Good luck  Smile

Obviously, I need to get much closer and upgrade my gear. Meanwhile, I'll follow your advice, OD720, and head over to the road. I've got diplomatic plates, so it could be interesting! Appear to by quite close to the border, but they're probably 5-8 miles away from it.

Braniff, are you in Armenia now? We should go spotting sometime. I want to catch the Sukhoi RJ when it gets here! Drop me s message if you're game.
