Toady's SCMP has an article stating that Pakistan will buy up to 150 Chengdu J-10 depending on the final price. It seems that LM has lost out with its bid to re-quip the PAF with new F-16s.
Looks like US military exports has helped China to build a competitive "Chinese Copy" of the F-16, which is now beating the "brand name" aircraft in serious orders.

Thats got to be all down to $$$$$'s and bang for your buck. The J-10 has probably got conservatively 85% of the capability (probably superior close in a2a) of the F-16 and is probably between 60 and 70% of the cost. Its got to make financial sense from a banking perspective alone.

Did the Russians finally agree to let them transfer the engine?

At this point, with the J-10B, I'd hardly consider it a "chinese copy". I think its the chinese aircraft with most potential(except for the J-11 but that is an exact copy of the Flanker, anyway).

It is. The problem with J-10, its related to the development of the WS-10A as a replacement of the AL-31F engine.
