Recently I had the pleasure of speaking to a couple of guys from Kawasaki involved with the C-X programme. I haven't heard anything about the status of this programme for quite a while so I was keen to ask questions...
Amongst other things, they both seemed pretty confident that the first flight of the KHI C-X would occur before the end of January.
They also said however that if doesn't happen by the end of January, then it most definitely will happen before the end of March.
So it seems that it is fairly imminent. First flight will take place from KHI Gifu plant co-located with JASDF Gifu Air Base.
Hopefully there won't be any further delays/disappointments.

Thanks for the update on the C-X. This is an important program for the JSDAF. I am still hoping for international sale. If she fly by the end of March 2010, that will be a very active 6 months for flight testing around the world.
Here's a link to a blog with some pictures of the TRDI 'telemetry' vehicle that will be used for C-X flight tests. Seems to have been revealed at last years Gifu Airshow.

Sorry, my Japanese reading abilities are not very good, in fact they are non-exsistant. But it is good to see the XC-2 is ready to fly, depending on weather.

The specs on this aircraft are quite comparable to the A400M. What is the unit cost of this product? I don't believe the Japanese are in the export business, but perhaps it could be an option for USAF if the need for such an airframe arose.

Flight occurred this morning (2010.1.26)
Take-off was at 10:21 (Japanese time) at Gifu Airbase.
XC-2 performed various systems tests and a simulated landing before returning to Gifu Airbase landing safely just over an hour later at 11:33.
JMoD is reported as being happy with the initial results.
Pilot reported as saying it handled as expected from the simulators.
The test aircraft is expected to be formally delivered to the Japanese MoD by the end of March, for evaluation, testing and acceptance.
I have been waiting for this flight for at least four years. I know a few people who attended the event at KHI Gifu works. Unfortunately I couldn't be one of them but a great day nonetheless!!

Will Japan export this aircraft? I was looking at the performance numbers, it should kick A400M ass hands down.
