I don't know if this is some bizarre Russian attempt at humour - but apparently the IL-96 is going to be offered for the contest and UAC - the offer will be announced on Monday the 22nd in partnership with a US company.

Even with price shoot down as this RFP has been structured - I don't think the Ilyushin stands a chance - except for being the court jester - kind of like Pavel Grachov saying his tanks would capture Grozny in 12 hours.

They may have the cheapest airplane to buy, but how much fuel over 40 years will the Il-96 drink, and can it last for 40 years? What about MilCon costs, and LCC? Where are they going to get a Boom?

The amusement factor of Boeings response to a failed bid would be enough to jusftify awarding the bid.......

My question is who the US Aviation firm would be. Lockheed Martin? What about a new Northrop bid based on the IL-96?

Does Vandenburgh still have an 18,000' long runway?
