everything but the 747. Came in for Sen. Byrd's funeral. Check out the picture of the military ramp with the fleet parked there. There are pix and video.

Seems like a waste to fly all those airplanes just 200-300 miles, or so. Why didn't they just ride in busses?
This is just another example of wasting the tax payer's money.

let's be real here, if you were a senator would you honestly take a bus?
Those planes aren't like commercial planes where they can carry 100 passengers or so, they are outfitted like business jets so it takes a few more planes.

One would think that there would be a more efficient use of our tax payers money but defiantly not at that level and not yet. I've done a ADW-BWI-ADW mission back in the day with a C-37B and a lot of our flights out of RMS where even worse.

It would have been one thing if they chartered a commerical jet to take all the Senators on one airplane, then the C-32A, C-40B, or C-37A for AF-1, but they used some 9 different airplanes, not counting AF-1. It would be interesting to find out the total cost of this 258 nm, 34 minute trip from ADW-CRW.

Quoting CheetahC (Reply 5): Perhaps they aren't allowed to travel on a single aircraft, incase of a crash etc.?
That is not a consideration for either house of the Congress. It only applies to the POTUS, VPOTUS, and Cabinent Members.
The best this current Congress deserves is a dirty bus with two flat tires and no air conditioning.
