Chuck Schumer has announced that the intrepid Air/Space Museum is on the "Short List" to receive one of the Space Shuttles. This would be a tremendous addition to the displays already at the Intrepid. I still would like to have seen the Vertical Fin of US Airways Flight #1549, become an addition to the museum as well.

That would leave one after that. One is almost guaranteed to go to Smithnsonian/NASM to complement OV 101 "Enterprise." After the "realones" there are several mock-ups used for training that would probably be parcelled out.

I would hope that if they did entertain one of the flying models, they would house it from the weather, otherwise the salt air will kill the airframe.

did he specify how they would enclose it from the elements?... if you have a link it would be helpful.

Seattle's Museum of Flight may be on the short list as they have begun construction of a new building

Why would they want both a training mockup and a real shuttle ? At least give the training aid to another museum.....

I think they are grabbing a sure thing while the debate for the prize goes on and will relinquish it to another museum if the get the real thing.
