Air Force One was recently retrofitted with new security measures and a new interior, according to MSNBC. No news article to link to but there was a 30-second spot on the news about it.

It is my understanding that the last changes made were after 9/11, does anyone know what has changed on the inside? For matters of security and speculation, can we refrain from speaking of security-sensitive items like counter defense items.

Thanks.

The 2002/2003 upgrades to the VC-25As added secure video conferencing, and the ability to address the nation inflight. That is why President Bush had to go to OFF from BAD, on 9/11/01, he could not address the nation from AF-1, so he used the old SAC Underground Command Post before he flew back to ADW. Then he addressed the nation, again from the Oval Office that night. There were other updates, too (2002/2003), but I don't know what they were, nor do I want to know.

I have no idea what upgrades were performed in this 2009/2010 upgrade, except Boeing also performed the Depot Level Maintance (PDM) on them, which is similar to a commerical airliner "D" check.

Why is this outsourced to Boeing? Given what is depicted about the AF1 staff, I would think that they D-check that baby every night before they close the hangar.

so the personnel from Boeing are doing the check? I bet security has lock down on them.. im surprised that the air force wouldn't do it? or am i missing something? By all means though Air Force One is a nice addition for the president and i would hope that they would go over anything that they might need in the future instead of doing it after an event. But i guess you don't know until it happens then you learn.. Just my input thanks.

Boeing does the "C" and "D" checks on all 7 USAF B-747s, the two VC-25As, four E-4Bs, and one YAL-1A. There is not a security problem with Boeing doing them. The SS monitors the heavy maintenance and modifications on the VC-25As.
