I'm a little surprised no one posted anything about this yet. I sure wish I would have known about this, I would have made the trip to San Diego. Looks like quite a sight over San Diego Bay. Apparently there were all kinds of old birds.
The link below is intended for the fly-over of the 40 F/A 18's form the Carrier Stennis. One word: Awesome

I live in san Diego and never heard anything about it. I saw an osprey flying around the other day maybe it was part of this. I'm surprised they didn't say anything about this on the news or make a bigger deal about it.

My family attended the 50th anniversary when I was in high school. We toured the North Island and the USS Kearsarge. Watched the air show and attended a big dinner that evening. My father spent 30 years in the Navy and served onboard the USS Sangamon CVE-26 during WWII.

I was there yesterday. Traffic was awful so I missed the Stennis tours. That was the main reason I chose to go to the base to watch. Oh well. I saw all the flying. I was cool. A little different, but cool. That final 35-ship flyover was AWESOME. Definitely the highlight of the day.

I made the trip down to NZY for this and it was AWESOME!
I have some photos up ( www.flickr.com/photos/richsnyder ); it was so exciting to see so many USN / USMC / USCG birds that, flat out, we just don't see in the Bay Area.
