India's DRDO launched an ABM five minutes after a launch of its Prithvi Ballistic Missile , which was intercepted and destroyed successfully. The challenge will be to produce this sophisticated armament in quantity.

So what do you think about this addition to India's arsenal? Is it comparable to the Patriot? Thoughts welcome...

I think a bigger challenge would be to keep hitting the target missile consistently. The previous test of the ABM was a failure.

DRDO needs to keep testing the ABM system extensively and iron out the flaws. Remember the countless number of tests that the Prithvi & Agni missiles have been through?

A second challenge would be to perfect the system and bring it to the production stage before it becomes obsolete (read as - before others get equivalent systems)

Once the system is perfected, I don't foresee a major issue in producing it in sufficient numbers.

Thanks for making some very good points.

Real life testing of this product must be quite expensive! You would need quite a few successive hits before it goes to production.

This is very sophisticated stuff and the DRDO deserves kudos.

Very true!

DRDO's aim now should be to stay ahead in the game. Ballistic missiles are slowly becoming passe' now with the advent of longer range cruise missiles and ABM technology. Their aim should be to develop and bring systems into production before potential adversaries get similar stuff.
