Interesting article apparently the Bo 105 fleet is also be retired. The Bo 105 is used in two different roles with the Army. First as an anti-tank helicopter and in this role it is being replaced by the Eurocopter Tiger. The second use of the Bo is as a light utillity helicopter which is also used to insert special forces by rope. The Bo 105 is being retired because it is too expensive to maintain. The FAZ (a big newspaper here in Germany) reports concerns that losing their helicopters would not only reduce the readiness of special forces, but also deprive them of the skills of the highly trained pilots required for special operations.

That looks to be a 30% cut in the German Army and Air Force. Are their any cuts planned for the Navy too?

No, it will be a cut, but Germany, according german media, will offer offset deals to the producing companies, which could result in ordering other types from them.
If you, for example, cut the numbers of eurofighters, it could mean you add some more A400Ms or order the C295 as longterm Orion-replacement.
Cancelling some of the NH90s could mean ordering more EC635 or firming the MH 90 for the navy.
I still wouldn´t rule out the Cougar or the EC145 for germany.

I think a new heavy transport helicopter (CH 53 replacement) will be ordered instead maybe some EC 645 as well.
It will forever be a McDonnell Douglas MD 80 , Boeing MD 80 sounds so wrong
