#187 the final planned operational frame is out of the factory today in Georgia.

While immensely expensive the F-22 was quite a an achievement technology wise with fantastic performance for its mission.

The article lists where the F-22's are based (Holloman, Eldmendorf, Langley, and Hickman) but doesn't mention Tyndall AFB, FL. I know they were there at one time, was that just a training squadron and then disbanded or did they get moved? I was under the (apparently false) impression that they were still there.

On a side note I got to tour that facility where the F-22's are made back in late 90's before they were in production but a lot if not all of the equipment was in place (thanks to one Lt.Col. Bob Price USMC retired). Did get to see the C-130J's that were just then rolling off the line in the plant nearby.

The F-22 production line and the C-130J production line at different ends of the same building!

They're still there, as a training Wing. They are also at Nellis and Edwards AFB. However the Combat squadrons are at Elmendorf (two squadrons), Langley (two squadrons), Holloman (two Squadrons) and Hickam (1 squadron).

I thought the Holloman wing was shutting down and Langley was to see their third squadron re-equipped with F-22s, transitioning out of the F-15C.

Shame....

I would actually support scrapping most of the USAF F35 buy anger getting more F-22.

It's development is complete and we don't have to wait for production to start.

Meanwhile the chicom government is going ahead with th j20 and the Russians with the T50.

Ah I remembered it being a training wing but didn't catch the distinction in the article (if there was one) that it was listing just the combat squadrons... but it makes sense.

You know, I was trying to jog my memory on how it was but its very fuzzy.. my mistake. I had met Lt Col Bob Price on a cruise with my fiance, we talked shop made fast acquaintances he was on a cruise with his wife, just retired from the Marine Corp as a test pilot and after the vacay was going to be in charge of the C-130J program for Lockheed... he invited me to take a tour if I was ever in the area and a few years later when I was, and him being gracious and a man of his word, he gave me that tour, for which I'm forever grateful. But alas my memory is not what it used to be.
