Yesterday (Aug. 10) around 10-11AM I was catching a flight at John Wayne Airport (SNA) and saw a C-130J on the other side of the field from the terminal, which took off not long before my flight boarded. I think there are a few pictures in the A.net database, but this is the first time I've personally seen a military aircraft at this airport. I took some low-quality photos out of the terminal window and it was marked with "ANG" and "21463" on the tail, which I'm guessing makes it 02-1463. Anyway, my best guess as to why it would be at this airport would be that some politician was also visiting and they were bringing security gear or something, and my second best guess would be that there was some bulky bit of kit that the military or NASA needed from some nearby airspace contractor, but that seems less likely. Anyone know more?

Could be any number of reasons a CA ANG airplane was at a civilian airport in California. Is it a drill weekend for the CA National Guard? Could have been picking up Guard members. See if it comes back tommorrow night...
