For anyone in the SF area today there will apparently be a B2 flyby. I was out yesterday on a sailboat and it was a spectacular day. I was mightily surprised, and thrilled, when an F22 roared overhead on full afterburners. It did a full demonstration including the flat spin and several maneuvers involving the thrust vectors. I'll try to post photos and video when the three days are up and I've been able to cull the best material. The Air Force boys put on a helluva show, and in my mind were the highlight of the day. At the conclusion of the F22 demo, which lasted some 30 minutes, this plane was joined, in formation, by a P51 Mustang and an F16. I almost wept with joy.
Next up was the traditional Blue Angels shows and we had a great vantage point off of Chrissy Field, approximately a half mile in from the southern end of the GG Bridge. This is about as good as it gets if you enjoy flybys directly overhead from all directions. Two other highlights were a UA 777, which with any luck will be a 787 next year, and a solo demo flight by an F18E/F. That was also a first and when I pointed out the squared off intakes to my fellow crew I got a lot of "nerd" comments from the girls (amateurs!)
And finally then the piece de resistance, the America's Cup Race. I've never sen the boats close up like that and at full speed. My guess is the winds were around 15 knots for the race. I don't know yet who won Day 1 of this particular series and we were all fairly shattered at that point. All in all a great day on the water and my first ever F22 live sighting. What an incredible piece of machinery.
So this weekend in SF we have Fleet Week, The America's Cup, the annual Hardly Strictly Bluegrass musical event in GG Park, and The Castro Street Festival. So if you're a gay sailor, which I am not, and you also like Banjo music, then get yourself to SF. This town is 100% entertainment all weekend.

Quoting as739x (Reply 2): Incredible pic Jeff, thanks for sharing. I had the luxury of watching them depart from the Ramp Tower here at SFO, and couldn't decide which aircraft to watch as they took-off.
Thank you, as.
Quoting as739x (Reply 2): Was the 777 you saw a departure going up the coast, cause all they fly overs were done with a 747 for the airshow.
No, it was anything but that. The guy was a total madman (in the best way) and I'm so bummed I wasn't down on the waterfront to see the flyby.
Quoting as739x (Reply 5): Son-of-a-gun! Was a 747 all other days and scheduled as so. I stand corrected.
The first 3 pics of the 777 are kinda of eerie looking.
And again, thanks for the pics
You're welcome. I've never seen the UA flyby done with anything but a 744 so this was a treat but it was eerie watching N212UA fly in like that--can't say I've ever seen anything like it before but props to the crew.
Quoting wingman (Reply 6): Well now I'm too embarrassed to post my pics. In my defense we were on a rolling boat so no way to get shots like Jeff's. Thanks for posting!
My pleasure--I'm glad you started the thread.
Speaking of which, the OP was out there on Friday and, to me, the best lighting conditions for the three shows I saw were that day as well. Here's on more from the USAF Heritage Flight:
