IMO, the public were allowed WAY to close to a landing aircraft, even before the kangaroo hop.

That was close...
The onlookers were too close, but they were still outside the fences and far from the displaced threshold.
I don't know how long the runway was, but the approach was just way too low in any case.

Good thing it was its last landing too. The landing gear took quite a beating.

Looks like I picked the wrong week to quit posting...

Seriously any details about the field he landed on? Was it so short he felt it was better not to follow the glideslope laid out by the PAPI? The field clearly has one, he rolls by it at the end of the film

OBAMA-WORST PRESIDENT EVER....Even SKOORB would be better.

Here's the map....

The asphalt runway is 685 meters long (per Wikipedia). Now I've measured on Google maps:

When landing on RWY 27 (as in the video), the distance from the landing threshold to the end of the runway is 610 meters.

Landing distance is quoted at 1970ft in Flight 1961. That is 600 meters, so he had to put it right at the start of the runway

Looking at the pictures it looks like some cones were put to show how close spectators were allowed to go, and they were sitting beyond those.

That's why you should never stand under the flightpath close to the end of the runway. You never know when something like this could happen. Even on a good approach, a sudden gust of wind from behind could unexpectedly increase the descent rate in the final seconds.

I bet there were a few 'gusts of wind' all around when this happened.......

Glad no-one was injured.

The runway effectively ends at the rural road.

Passing road traffic would have been unlucky, but that doesn't make Jim's advice not to stay under the flightpath less sensible.
