Nice to see they're getting something.

It is already at EFD. If you are going to the base or just drive over near the HAS office and Vomit Comet-on-a-stick you can see it very well. It will be interesting to see where they finally put it...

Don't they already have a life size shuttle mock up that people can climb inside and explore ? To me that's a better tourist attraction than a static exhibit.

I think the vast majority of aviation and space enthusiasts, including myself would agree with you. I mean let's use a submarine as an example. I can read all the books I want, hear all the stories...but until I can get in one (in my case, the old WW2 sub, the USS Becuna), I can't really understand what it was to live and work in it.

This fact was actually brought out to the general public about 6-7 days before it hit the Internet at large (i hate to say broke the news as that is a technicality) right here on this forum on the following thread.

New A.NET Article On The Nasa 747 SCA Is Up! (by eksath Nov 20 2012 in Military Aviation & Space Flight)

Quoting eksath (Thread starter):
On a side note: the last flying aircraft, N905NA, was relocated to Ellington Airfield in Houston,TX in late October 2012. It is expected that this will be her final retirement location. Her engines will be shipped back via land to Palmdale and NASA SOFIA (if nothing else changes).

just a little factoid.
