L-29 Down Near Dallas - 2 Dead

An L-29 went down southeast of Dallas this afternoon.

The owner/ pilot was flying a young man who had won the flight in a charity auction.

No information about possible cause, but the plane took off from an untowered airport on a VFR flight.

Very small debris field.

Unrelated but If memory serves Gagarin died in a l-29 also

Nope, it was in a MiG-15UTI according to a quick search.

The Delfin is described as a pretty sweet aircraft to fly, by the way.

I've flown in an L-29 before, back seat, it was a fun ride and the pilot was 76 years old (WOWZA). Unfortunately, many other L-29s and L-39s in the states aren't doing so well these days. An acquaintance of mine, Doug Gillis, died some months back in an L-39 crash in Nevada.
