Yesterday I was out on my end of the world track to visit the local musuems and gate guards. I was finally able to get out to Edwards and see Balls Eight sitting at the main gate. I have heard this is a low time airplane (flight time). Does anyone know how much flight time is on this airframe. Just curious some of my airplanes are only 20 years old and have over 100K hours, I have hear rumour that this airframe is 50plus years old and has only about 5000 hours.

I don't know about long-range bombers, but the German Starfighter on the left has only 1,700 hours on the clock, and the right one just 19 hours....

I would not find 5,000 hours to be an unrealistic number of flight hours.

The aircraft was 'in' the USAF for four years as an RB-52B. It was a test bed, never used for operational missions.

For the rest of the aircraft life - it flew only short missions which very specific technical profiles.

NASA's Fact Sheet on the aircraft list its flying hours as 2,443.8 hours.
