Has anyone heard what the plans are for the two modified 747's that were used to carry the shuttle? Hopefuly, they will be going to a museum.

FAA killed the purpose of my old signature: Use of approved electronic devices is now permitted.

I've read that the older of the two, N905NA, might get preserved in Houston? But I also read that it would be a SOFIA parts donor.

They are two old birds-both are 741's--I know one was former AA and I think the other was former PA IIARC.

Yeah, the first one was former AA, but actually the second one was ex-JL, a 747-SR that they sold, I forget if it was before or after the massive crash they had with one.

N911NA - parts donor for SOFIA 747SP. Gate guard for the rest of the hulk at Palmdale.
N905NA - At Ellington Airfield in Houston. Current options are gate guard at EFD or another use for either NASA or outside entity. Engines will be shipped back to Palmdale via land for SOFIA 747SP, if that is the final result. She did take another training sortie from EFD. Things may change i.e. some other use or interested purchase.
