Hmm, would be better if the word 'blimp' was in the title.
I thought you were talking about the Blue Angels C-130 "Fat Albert".
Any idea what would be replacing the blimps, if anything?
Quoting woodreau (Thread starter): Maybe this will alleviate the obstruction clearance requirements to climb to 15,000 before proceeding on course over Key West.
We'll hire some aerospace contractor to study that and get back to you on it...

It is not a blimp. It's an aerostat. And its not just the one in Florida being shut down, its the entire network, the Tethered Aerostat Radar System being shutdown.

Agreed, I too thought the OP was referencing the Blue Angels C-130. The only thing 'cut' in regards to the BA Fat Albert was the JATO takeoffs after they ran out of bottles 2 years ago...
Quoting Oroka (Reply 3): Same here. Never heard of the Florida Fat Albert
I've known about the Key West blimp/aerostat since I was kid. My uncle who worked at NASA sent me a 8x10 photo of it when I was a kid, thought it was pretty cool.
