Looks like the future of the AC-130 is here, based on the C-130J:

“Major enhancements will include extended sensor capabilities, more precise fire control and stand-off precision guided weapons capabilities,” said Capt. Belena Marquez, spokeswoman for Air Force Special Operations Command.

Why do C-130 still have the cockpit windows from the late 1940ies and 1950ies, like those on the Boeing Stratocruiser?

Why was introducing A400M- or C-17-style windshields never an issue for Lockheed or the U.S. Armed Forces?

No. Lots of older model hercs had them too. KC-130T, MC-130P. In the above photo you can just barely see the retracted baskets on the J.

Max Q, the EC-130J pictured above has no fuel tanks on it. The MC-130P pictured above has fuel tanks on the inboard stations, but not the outboard.

More specifically, the MC-130P looks to have refueling pods on the outer stations. The EC-130J has antenna pods on the outer stations (I believe those are the television broadcast antenna's).
