No Euro Hawks For Germany, Alternatives?

The German goverment has recently decided not buy more Euro Hawks except for the prototyp. Several reasons have led to the decision. But since SIGINT has become such an important factor will there be alternatives ? In a German aviation forum an interesting idea was posted:

The RAF wants to sell their Sentinel 1 fleet soon and the idea was that Germany could get this and use them as a platform for their SIGINT needs. So my question is: Is that possible ?


It will forever be a McDonnell Douglas MD 80 , Boeing MD 80 sounds so wrong

What's your source? All I can find are articles regarding the very high cost to have it certificated in order to use regular airspace. But none states the programme was cancelled.

It would cost 600 Million Euros to get it certified, no way this will go through with the German parliament. It definetly would be cheaper to get a manned platform.
