Well done ESA and Arianespace! VV02 mission accomplished!

Vega is the new lightwheight rocket (up to 1.5t payloads) completing ESA's lineup together with Ariane 5 and Soyuz. This second mission introduced significant new items (new payload adapter capable of injecting multiple sats into different orbits in a single mission, new flight software, new tracking station with better angular separation in the first phase of the ascent) in an already innovative program (monolithic carbon fibre solid propellant stages, all-electric rocket, etc.).

That's exciting news especially for my fellow nationals (Vega was mainly developed and is built in Italy), struggling hard to find some positive highlights in a dire period.

Extended coverage of the launch here.

Final countdown starts at 19:50. Not much to see under pouring rain and low cloud cover, but the video is enjoyable nonetheless.
