President Obama toured the OK area affected by the tornadoes yesterday (5/26). He arrived aboard a VC-25A into Tinker AFB at about 11:40am CDT.
From what I heard on liveatc.net, the approach seemed rather unusual. They were first cleared for an ILS 17R at Will Rogers Airport, and they were then "cleared for the option 17R" by Tower... At some point they terminated the approach into 17R at Will Rogers and then continued towards Tinker where they were first directed towards an ILS 18, and then cleared for the visual approach runway 18 at Tinker AFB where they finally landed.
Does anyone know the reason for this procedure where they entered 2 approaches in different airfields? Why not just a straight-in ILS into runway 18 at Tinker?

Could not listen to the liveatc audio, but looking at map of the area my guess would be that the two approaches were to allow a fly over of the area struck by the tornado. Moore is to the south and half way between the two airports, so an ILS to 17R followed by a gentle left turn of 180 degrees would allow a flyover of the damaged area, and pretty much set up for a downwind to Tinker.

I'm surprised you heard anything at all. I happened to be in Vegas, and being the aviation nut I am, I heard POTUS was in town for a couple hours. I found out what time he was expected to leave, was in my room (facing LAS, of course) with my camera and liveatc on. I SAW AF1 takeoff, and have a pic of it, but never heard it on the LAS tower freqs.
