I just watched Red Dawn yesterday and I couldn't indentify
choppers used in it. It was ment too look as Mi-24 but I guess it was some other helicopter with plastic parts?

So what is it ?

My guess is either Mi-8 or Puma

I'm pretty sure they were H-3 "Jolly Green Giants" with cosmetic changes such as the addition of stub wings. Back then, it would be next to impossible for an american movie to obtain Mi-8s, and I think even the puma was too new to be used in this role.

I had to pop my copy in the DVD player to answer this.

They are definately reworked Pumas, The tail surfaces and the shape of the engine cowling betray this fact.

To bad most americans have forgotten the lesson about communist domination that where presented in that film.

After a little searching, I found a site with clips of helicopters in movies, including Red Dawn (about 3/4 down the page).

They did a pretty good job with them to look like an -8 but they are also much bigger I think.

Dieing to know who is or was going to invade you ?

Do you normally spend time and resources defending yourself against things that aren't going to happen ? Tidal waves, volcanoes .....

The Canadians....

You know they have massed 80% of their population among the border.

That and I do live on the old Soviet/US border, so you never can be too carefull.

There have been rumours about the Canadians staging amphibious excercises outside of Victoria on Vancouver Island. The Olympic peninsula is wide open to attack.

There have also been reports of Canadian forces massing along the Montana border. (It has long been said that the Canadians want more prairie for "living space.") But probably the most disturbing is the presence of highly mobile forces just north of Duluth, Minnesota. These forces supposedly have Wisconsin targeted for domination so that they can control the Cheese production facilities. (This option is pushed heavily by the French speaking population of Quebec. You know how the French love their cheese!)

Smile (please note...the above was meant to be HUMOROUS and in no way reflects ill on the Nation of Canada, it's people or it's military. Even though "mass forces" for them would be about 3 platoons of infantry.)

It sort of gives new meaning to the phrase, "Red Menance"

And don't forget about the agents that have already infiltrated our country, William Shatner, Alex Trebek, Pamela Anderson. There are here to change out lives and our culture.

The threat is real and it is out there people
