I have read that the USAF plans to re-engine the C-5A Galaxy, but the artical was not specific to the engine type. The same was said for the B-52Gs & Hs. Any insights?

B-52Gs are long gone. C-5 was supposed to get the CF-6. B-52H... don't open that can of worms. You see, the USAF likes to repair TF-33s, it is a bit of a hobby to them. No need to replace them, they have enough spares to keep on repairing them till the year 3000!

No kidding, we have so many sitting around in coffins here at Tinker, we already know the E-3 is not getting CFM-56s anytime soon. We have TF-33s out the Wazzoo!
The B-52H re-engine thing comes up every few years. Don't think it will happen before 2010, if at all.
C-5As??? Maybe if they don't AMARC them all. Haven't heard on that front. But there are some C-5 Bubbas on the forum from time to time that would know.

Pardon my ignorance gentlemen, but what is the civilian counterpart to the TF-33? Also I thought many C-5As were being retired, and that the C-5Bs & C-17s were picking up the slack. Regards.

I believe the civilian counterpart was the JT3D

I believe that the first C-5's that will be re-engined with the General Electric F103 (the military version of the CF6-50 engine) are supposed to get their upgrades starting in 2005. I think they plan to upgrade about 50 C-5's with rebuilt wings and F103 engines by 2010.

The last I heard the B-52H's were going to get the PW2000's series engines (I think I have that right)...the same engines as the PW-powered 757's.
