Hello Ladies and Gentlemen,
I'm having a little problem with my life choices right now. I am 18 years old and going to college this fall for business. Since I was 14, I have been a volunteer at the fire department through a special program and at 17 became a full member. Anyways, I really love my country and I love helping the community out. Furthermore, aviation is a huge hobby of mine that I'd like to make my career. I'd love to get into flying for the Air Force, Air National Guard, Navy... I'd prefer to enlist after college, because with out a degree it's starting to become more hard to find a decent paying job. Is a business degree going to help me more with my dream? Will it make me a better applicant then "Jon Doe" who has a electricians license? Does the Army, Air Force, Air National Guard look up upon this? Would a different degree help me more? I love my country, and no offense to those who are a cook or a weigh station operator, but I do not want any other job then to be a pilot. I know jobs need to get done, but I'd rather work in the corporate world then be a cook in Guam.

First of all you wouldn't want to enlist then, you would want to go to OTS and get a commision. As an officer you could then get into pilot training if you pass the physical exams and aptitude tests. But you are still not guaranteed to get a pilot slot. The degree really doesnt matter as to what type it is. But the Air Force will place you were it deems it needs you.

Do what your mind tells you. If you want to join the military, then join. It's not that hard. If you want to fly, then fly. A lot of guys I know in the military want to be cooks because it's an easy job and easy for promotion unlike aviation technical jobs.
