A formation of 4 fighters--they appeared to be F-14s--just flew rather low outside my office window. They were heading south past Lower Manhattan and the Statue of Liberty, then out over the harbor.
Actually, they just flew over again as I am writing this!
Anyone know what the occasion is? I know there are often patrols these days, but not nearly that low, and not in groups of 4...

Probably a photo op with the Statue of Liberty as a backdrop.

Is there an aircraft carrier paying a visit to the city? It's not fleet-week, is it?

Nope, they were definitely Tomcats...specifically, according to the Yankees' website, "four U.S. Navy F-14s piloted by the VF-211 squadron ("The Fighting Checkmates")"
I'm glad to know my fighter-recognition skills haven't completely atrophied.
Anyway, what do you mean "prevail again"?!! They didn't prevail last year, or the year before that, or...you get the idea.

Okay, it is enough just to prevail over the Red Sox! Watching the game now but I have to admit that the Mets has been more exciting to watch lately.

Two Landed on 22 at LGA and the other two returned to base. I would imagine based on similar events in the past the crew of the two at LGA were taken to the game and will I presume fly out mid day Friday. Again this is speculation, nothing for sure.

Maybe practicing for a photoshoot of the two Queens - QE2 and QM2 in NYC together in a couple of weeks time, on 25 April. They sail within an hour of each other on their transatlantic journeys to Southampton.
Some years back, there was a great pic of BA Concorde flying over lower Manhattan with QE2 below - it could have been a Photoshop job.
The ultimate pic was the QE2 sailing up the English Channel, escorted by the Red Arrows fighter exhibition team, and above them the BA Concorde in the centre - all photographed from an aircraft above the lot, by Adrian Meredith! Adrian also shot the pic of four Concordes flying in formation.

Going OT a bit now, but I guess one of you new yorkers may be able to help me.
Is Concorde open to the public at the USS Intrepid yet? I ask as it would be nice to go see it when I am in New York next week (14-18apr). (I know I can see Concorde here at MAN - but it will be also nice to see it in NYC).

Why the hell does a crappy baseball game require a flyover by a bunch of F-15s? Quite stupid if you ask me. It freaks people out, especially in Manhattan, and its a big waste of money. Professional sports are for the bored and unsophisticated amongst us.

yeah and get beaten by a team which only has a quarter of their salary that doesn't try to buy the world series.
As soon as I saw the subject on here, the jets were for one of the baseball games either yanks or mets

Maybe because baseball is America's pastime! To quote Sgt. Hulka in Stripes..."Lighten up Francis!"
I saw some F/A 18's do a flyover of Joe Robbie Stadium before a Monday Night Football game. FULL Afterburners!!! WOW, Makes me proud to be an American!

Sorry, just enjoying the "WORLD CHAMPION FLORIDA MARLINS"!!!
