Lockheed Martin has completed the assembly of the first C-130J-30 for the USAF. This is the first of 5 extended fuselage length USAF C-130Js under contract. The aircraft will be flown to Edwards AFB flight test center following painting and flight tests. It will be joined by a further 2 C-130J-30 for a 3-month test program. After testing they will go to Rhode Islands Air National Gaurd 143rd airlift wing.
Lockheed Martin has been awarded a contract for a additional 12 C-130J's at a value of $734.5 Million. These include
-(1) EC-130J & (2) C-130J-30s for Air National Gaurd.
-(3) KC-130Js for USMC
-(6) HC-130Js for the US coast Gaurd

Wouldn't it be nice if they could give the USCG a budget and replace all of the various vintages of H and E models that they have in service.
Doubt it will happen though. They are allways stuck with hand-me-downs for the big boy services.

how is the -130J a 'hand me down' from the other services? the coast guard requested it and they got it. it's going to replace the various vintages of h and e model 130's. if you mean a hand me down because the active duty doesn't want it because it's a piece of junk, then you're right. but since they asked for it i don't see how you can say it's just a hand me down

I didn't realize that they USCG had requested them....
If they have and are receiving them then GREAT!! I was under the impression that they where going to stick it out with their HC-130E/H models for a while yet.
