According to their website, the RAF are considering ordering the A330-200 to replace their older VC-10s and Tristars.

http://www.raf.mod.uk/equipment/acref.html
-under 'Future Requirements' near the bottom of the page

More details:
http://www.raf.mod.uk/equipment/fsta.html

The new aircraft would take up the role of tanker and transporter.

There seems to be nothing about the 767 (which the US AirForce operates). Is an A332 order inevitable like the Australian AirForce order a few months back?

Yes, the order is 97% inevitable..
1%..Blair, 1%...disagreement, 1%.. unlucky.

The A330 seems to be in a better light than the 767, esp. after Dryun's incident. However depending on their time requirements we COULD (note the Caps) see a rebid for Boeing to sell their 7E7, if RAF HAS the time..but unlikely.

BTW, USAF does not currently operate the T767s....

Now you're really flying

The RAF want both a VC-10 and L1011 replacement, they want to be able to carry troops/freight without changing the cabin and still do refuelling, they want enough fuel capacity to do refuelling without installing tanks in the fuselage, they want a lot of range and capacity.
Hence the A330.

Although the MOD has chosen the A330 they are still a long way off signing a contract.

It's not just about the aircraft, its about the whole package of a private company (in this case Air Tanker ltd) providing a service for the next 25 years. The aircraft will be hired to the RAF complete with a full supporting package, from aircrew, maintenance, training and even providing crew transport.

The RAF can't wait to get hold of the aircraft. It's just that the small print is going to take a little time to sort out.

I'll miss those old birdS though - my new girlfriend lives at the end of the Brize runway. What a glorious sound! Shes less appreciative of course but there you go. Im loving those Globemasters too though - dont they make a lovely sound when at TOGA just lifting off? Fabulous... I dare say a load of A332s will make the missus happy - the rolls T772 is a VERY quiet engine....

What do you mean you dont have any bourbon? Do you know how far it is to Houston? What kind of airline is this???
