UK's RAF About To Order 20 A330 Tankers

Even though this has been dragging on for quite some time now, I think a final deal is on the horizon for upto 20 A330 tankers in a deal worth £13 billion.

The European AirTanker consortium, led by aerospace group European Aeronautic Defence & Space Co, has been named preferred bidder for a 13 bln stg deal to build refuelling aircraft for the UK's Royal Air Force.

It doesn't seem like Boeing have pushed for their B767Tankers hard enough.

How much does it cost any airline to lease and operate an aircraft for 27 years? Plus the aircraft have to be modified into tankers.

Although its a lot of money, the MOD have worked hard to ensure value for money for the tax payer so I don't think its overly expensive.

There are no plans to add a freight door up top. The current cargo holds are considered sufficient, though they will be modified to take the NATO pallet.

The main deck will be modified to take 40 stretchers if required.
