I don't think that there are exact informations about this technology transfer but recently CHina released some pics of their new lightweight fighter, the J-10 if I'm not wrong, and it looks a lot like the IAI Lavi, the indigenous developed (although inspired by the F-16) Israeli fighter, not built because US allowed the HHA to buy F-16s.

More recently Israel was about to sell the PLAF (Chinese Air Force) some AEW system to be fitted on A-50 Mainstay (IL-76) airframes but the US once again prevented the deal.

I don't know or remember about other occasions of high tech transfer but it is really worring that this could happen. It's worring that a Country so big and not so quiet like China wants to build modern and higlhy effective armed forces.

Ciao

Stefano

The fighter that idiot pilot of theirs that ran into that EP-3 was loaded with Python Air to Air missles. Those are equivelent to the US Sidewinder or the French Mica missles.

That Chinese fighter was armed with Python 3 missiles, they are compareable to the AIM-9L/M. Those missles aren't in production anymore. The much more advanced Python 4 would never be exported to China, because the US would do everything in its power to prevent the Chinese from getting an AA missile that is more capable than the US equivelent.

The ChiComs got their hand on Sidewinder tech back in the 1950s when a MiG-15 returned with an unexploded one lodged in the tail during the Korean war. Since then they have probably aqcuired more from their friends in Iran, Iraq and Vietnam.
Both China and Israel are parias in the international community, like the RSA was for decades. Such countries naturally seek each other for mutual support. I

Why would the PRC not have a right to a modern armed force, Stefano? Is high-tech the sole prerogative of the US of A now?

true, but China with the tech it had 10 years ago could also do that if they get their act together and build an amphib force.
Once you have the numerical advantage they can employ, tech no longer matters, especially if you have some nukes to throw around.

maybe you are right about nymerical advantage but i think that it's better to have smaller quantity of modern aircrafts than a large quantity of old fashioned .
and about nukes i don't think so that they will throw them especially not in taiwan .

Jwenting.....I have to correct you on one thing.

The first Sidewinder that the Chi-com's got was in the late 1950's during one of their little spats with Taiwan. It was a sidewinder B and was fired from a Taiwanese aircraft.

Hmm. this is news.

I thought the Israelis supplied China witha technology called "Phalcon", an AWAC's like system.

India was supposed to have bought the system first, to be mounted on IAF Illyushin 76's or modified A310's, but the Yanks pulled the plug after the nuclear tests of 1998. So that technology is now going to the Chinese.

The AWACS sale to China was cancelled due to pressure from the US.
