What Does ''Mk'' Mean?

All the british military ac have this added to their name, ie: Supermarine Spitfire Mk Vb.
So, what's this all about???

MK = Mark, which is the version number of the aircraft.

The U.S. uses a different system by adding a letter to the designation instead: P-51B = RAF Mustang Mk.III,P-51D = RAF Mustang Mk. IV,P-51K = RAF Mustang MK. IVa.
