Just wondering what the deal is with the F-22. I know it was scheduled to be in service sometime last year but I never heard anything about it being activated, is it in service yet? And if not, when will it be in service?
Also, is the USAF still looking to take delivery of around 275 units (I believe that was the last figure I saw)?
Finally, what's the plan for the F-15's? Are they are scheduled to be retired once the F-22 is fully operational?

Not sure about the overall status but it is flying over my house at least once or twice a week that I know of. I had a great view of it on final the other day from the Coke Enterprises building off of Windy Hill. Those birds are really big. They always have a chase plane with them and it dwarfs the F-16 I have seen alongside it.

I think you will see the F-15 around for some time as they continue to be modernized. If and when the F-35 JSF finally reaches operational levels then you could see the F-15 go away.

For some reason they don't seem nearly as loud as the F/A-18s screaming over my house on a daily basis.
Did you see the VC-135 flying into Dobbins today? I hadn't seen one of those there in a while.

The Raptors are loud! Much louder than the F-15. Langley has one squadron ready for deployment and has been operating the raptor for about a year.

Has anyone seen a news article that the Air Force had some concerns that the F-22 aft-fuselages concernig the engine mounts that Boeing produces did not meet their specification's.The article went on to say while their was not anything wrong with the airplane the aft-fuselages but it didn't meet Air Force specs. It also mentioned that to comply to to the Air forces demands it may mean that half of the F-22 may need to be redesigned because aft-fuselage makes up the back bone.
The article was written two Weeks or so ago and I was going to post it but it was late that and I was tiered so I was going to post the next morning. The next morning I couldn't find hide or hair of it and I don't remember the author or the publisher. Was it possible that the article was swept under the carpet or inaccurate?

Your best bet to see Raptors flying is at Tyndall AFB, where the 43rd FS is training the new pilots and maintainers and at Langley AFB, where the 27 FS was the first to go IOC with the Raptor and the 94th FS is following close behind. At the moment you can also see the Raptor somewhat "regulary" at Marietta, GA, at Edwards AFB, and at Nellis AFB.
Amazing airplane to work with. I have been mucho impressed in all my dealings with them. Not dealing with MX issues of course LOL
The F-15s will soldier on with the guard for many years to come.

I think once he got a little past me he kicked in the burners because he did get louder. Speaking of Harriers for whatever reason there were some of those at Dobbins the other day as well. They are insanely loud. My fillings were rattling in my mouth.
